The Department of ECE has launched a new academic
programme, M.E. in Applied Electronics, as a maiden
effort in post graduate education and training during
the current academic year (2007-2008). This PG course in
Engineering/Technology is affiliated to the Anna
University.
The M.E programme comprises of four semesters course
work spread over two academic years. In the first
semester, five core subjects along with one elective
course are offered, and during the second semester four
core subjects and two electives along with one
laboratory practical will be pursued. During the third
semester, three elective subjects will be available. In
addition every student will be assigned a Project
(Phase-I) to be carried out over a period of three to
four months. In the fourth and final semester the
students need to select a problem and work on the same
throughout the semester and develop a project (Phase II)
and submit a project report at the end of the semester.
Laboratories
All the M.E (A.E) students will be provided with
adequate access to the computing laboratory at the ECE
Department where their understanding of various
software’s including ModelSim, and Leonardo Spectrum
will be enhanced. All students are also provided with
text-books for ready reference and continuous self
study. They are encouraged to use all available books,
magazines as well as international and national journals
at the departmental library as well as at the Central
Library of the Institute. Equipment needed for the
second semester practical for Electronics Design Lab
have been identified and those items not presently
available are being procured. List of items to be
purchased is separately forwarded for budgetary sanction
Students are guided in the weekly seminar sessions to
present papers on technical topics of current interest.
They are also encouraged to attend and present papers in
state/ national level seminars and symposia.
Industrial Visit
The M.E students specializing in Applied Electronics
will be taken to a number of electronic industries
located in and around Coimbatore/Chennai/Bangalore for
acquiring a feel for real life situation. This
co-curricular activity, proposed by the department will
be organized during the semester weeks and vacation
period spread over the entire two year schedule.
