The WWW has changed the way the world looks at
information. The expanding role of IT in business,
science, government, social structures and the personal
lives is an obvious truth in the current generation.
Whether we are driving a zippy modern car, messaging a
friend, buying anything on the Internet, flying an
airplane, searching for information, we depend on
networks of computers that store, exchange and process
information in increasingly elaborate ways. As an
academic discipline, IT focuses on meeting the needs of
users within an organizational and societal context
through the selection, creation, application,
integration and administration of computing
technologies.
Academics
Postgraduate
The M.Tech program enables graduates to have a broad
technical understanding of current and emerging
technologies in the IT field, a familiarity with systems
engineering concepts, and a solid foundation in the
technological basis of the Internet. They will also have
a firm grasp of current and future effects of the
convergence of computer systems and telecommunication
systems technologies. Electives offered include Grid
Computing, Soft Computing and Computer Forensics. The
Department is working on the development of a new
graduate program that specializes in Information
Security and Computer Forensics.
Faculty
The Department of Information Technology has over 30
faculty members whose areas of expertise and research
include, but not limited to, Network Security, Mobile
Communication, Computer Forensics, Embedded Systems,
.NET Technologies etc.
Research & consultancy
Research in the Department focuses on creating and
evaluating, innovative learning experiences, inspired by
educational principles and technical progress. Our
approach is to use technology to help mediate a
constructivist dialogue between the learner, instructor
and subject matter.Researchers focus on the management
of IT, the IT-enabled enterprise, technology-intensive
user environments, and the increasingly global nature of
IT use and production.
As Information Security is one among the strongest
research areas of the faculty, the Department of IT has
a proposal to start a research center in the field of
Information Assurance and Security.
Cutting-edgelaboratories&facilities
The computing facilities and the classroom environment
in the Department of IT is an ergo-assistive work-study
environment open to students, faculty and researchers.
It has state of the art computing facilities to enable
the students, faculty and researchers to achieve their
task with ease of operation in their area of interest.
The Department has to its credit 5 laboratories (.NET,
Networking, Multimedia, Database, Visual Programming
Labs), totaling over 250 systems with 6 servers.
Industrial connection
The Department of IT has entered into a pact with
Microsoft through the MSDN Academic Alliance Program.
The Department Corporate Advisory Board includes top
executives from Infosys, Covansys, Wipro, Satyam, TCS
and Oracle.
Careers
